Who We Are

Architectural Consulting Services (ACS) is an award-winning design firm serving a diverse and demanding clientele. Jay R. Mason, AIA, LEED AP, is the Principal and Director of Design for ACS. He has 28 years experience in the field of architecture. Our philosophy at ACS involves the careful use of history, technology and the responsible use of materials and resources to create buildings and spaces that work efficiently and perform their function beautifully.

ACS performs professional design services for 20-30 clients per year. We specialize in renovation and historic rehabilitation for specialized one-of-a-kind projects. We also have a significant track record with new construction projects. We work primarily with Commercial, Institutional and Residential client projects but we have also handled a variety of other client use groups, as well. The typical ACS project ranges in size from a $50k addition to a $5M facility upgrade.

Our commitment to sustainable, energy-efficient work produces projects and buildings that are both attractive and that seek to minimize their footprint on the environment they touch. Using knowledge from the past, current green technology and allowing our work to be informed by clearly understanding a client’s functional and aesthetic needs, we seek to build projects that live comfortably in their surroundings.

Mr. Mason’s interest in sustainable design has led to his involvement in the Lowell Green Building Commission. He is currently the Technology Committee Chair. He is actively pursuing significant local changes in the way Lowell thinks and acts about building into the future. William Arvidson is an Associate with ACS and is also a member of the Lowell GBC.

We believe our work as architects leaves an indelible mark on our community and our
environment. This responsibility holds those of us in the business of architecture to a very high standard. Because of this vision, we seek a better, more successful project that will endeavor to be sustainable, to limit the wasteful and unnecessary parts and find a maximum relationship with the principals of nature and responsible technology.
